The Fall Playdate

September 13, 2024 · In: Playdates

My favorite season of the year is here – Fall! I love the weather, the colorful trees and I’ll admit I do enjoy a pumpkin spice latte. However, I do think all the pumpkin spice flavored food is getting a little out of control. Do we really need pumpkin spice cream cheese? That’s a topic for another day. I digress. Back to the playdate.

We are brining this month’s playdate outdoors! Let’s take advantage of the great weather while we can. The trees are starting to change colors in Reno so the Fall playdate is themed around all the fall leaves!

Activity

How to Play

The activity this month is to get outdoors and collect the beautiful fallen leaves. Once you have a good amount of leaves, sort them out based on their size; small, medium and large. You can do this activity with or without the printable. Personally, having the printout made it feel more like a game but it’s definitely not necessary. If you would like to print out our free printable you can download it at the link below.

You know we like to get multiple uses out of a game so if you want to continue the leaf sorting fun you can also sort them by color, shape or stems vs. no stems.

Snack

The playdate snack this month is pie crust leaf ‘chips.’ It’s super simple. All you do is roll out pie dough (I used store bought), take some leaf cookie cutters (like THESE), punch them out of the dough, bake, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and dip them into the festive pumpkin spice type of dip. Speaking of pumpkin spice, I bet you can dip these in pumpkin spice cream cheese. Guess there’s a use for it after all!

I forgot to pour cinnamon sugar over my leaf chips but they were still delicious plain! I got the idea from Space Ships and Laser Beams. You can click HERE for the full recipe.

Is it starting to look like fall where you are? Let us know in the comments below.

Cheers!

Send the kids out in the yard to gather leafs or go on a neighborhood walk. Once you have enough leaves of various shapes, sizes and colors head back to the house to assemble. Start by making a face out of construction paper and googly eyes, glue the face on a clothespin and clasped your favorite leaves to the pin.

Introducing: Trader Joe’s Mac-N-Cheese in a mini crockpot 🧀

I’m making this for 15 toddlers so they don’t need much. I buy 3 of the frozen Mac-n-cheese boxes, partially heat them in a microwave (for 3min), dump in a mini crockpot and plug in the crockpot at school. That’s it! Like I said, quick and easy 🙌🏼
