The Christmas Playdate

December 4, 2024 · In: Playdates

As we mentioned before, December is a hectic month so squeezing in a playdate might be a bit challenging. That’s why we are doubling up our playdate activity as a craft that makes for a great Chirstmas gift! Invite a new friend over, turn on the holiday music and make some homemade presents. We did these last year and both sets of grandparents loved it. Check out the details below!

Activity

Directions

What You’ll Need:

  • Clay or Dough
  • Rolling Pin
  • Straw
  • Pink, Red, White, Tan and Black Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Super Glue
  • White Pom Poms
  • Ribbon

Once you have all the material, start off by setting up your area. Next take your rolling pin and roll out the clay. Leave it about 1/8″ thick. Firmly press your kids hand into the clay. It doesn’t matter which hand you use. I personally wanted the hat to hang to the right so we used my sons right hand.

Once all the hand prints are made cut around each hand print. I used a kitchen knife. Now take the straw and punch a hole toward the bottom of the palm (top of the hat). This is for the string or ornament hook. Make sure the hole isn’t placed too close to the edge. You don’t want it to snap leaving you with no way to hang the ornament.

Once the hand prints are made, cut out and have the ornament hook hole punched out let them dry. I let the hands sit for 24 hours before painting.

Now that the ornaments are dry it’s time to paint. Start by painting the entire hand white. Let that dry a bit then move on to the base of the hat, face and back to the hat for finishing touches. You can use the pictures below as a guideline.

After the paint has completely dried, glue one pom pom to the bottom of the hat.

Lastly, take your ribbon, loop it through your hole and tie it in a bow, as shown below.

There you have it, the cutest keepsake ornament for you or your family!

Snack

Since that start of October it seems candy and desserts are everywhere! So we are keeping this playdate snack on the healthier side. Check out these strawberry banana candy canes by Healthy Little Foodies. You can find the recipe and other great healthy snack ideas here!

Introducing: Trader Joe’s Mac-N-Cheese in a mini crockpot 🧀

I’m making this for 15 toddlers so they don’t need much. I buy 3 of the frozen Mac-n-cheese boxes, partially heat them in a microwave (for 3min), dump in a mini crockpot and plug in the crockpot at school. That’s it! Like I said, quick and easy 🙌🏼
